Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Location: California


  • Design and develop all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery
  • Performs electrical systems engineering, including electrical power capacity studies, monitoring of the electrical power grid for outages, disturbances, and other emergencies, participating in the resolution of maintenance and warranty issues for electrical equipment, and maintaining the plant-wide as-built electrical system single-line drawings
  • Work with and support efforts for the development and implementation of the site PLC control systems and variable speed drives
  • Provides support to Engineering on new projects throughout the facility
  • Prepares drawing packages, specifications, documentation and equipment-information packets as necessary for job completion
  • Prepares capital appropriation requests for electrical systems, which include
    • Capital estimates and equipment descriptions,
    • Analysis of project purpose, benefits, and alternatives considered,
    • Project presentations to staff.
  • Specific design responsibilities will cover all classes of standard industrial power distribution up 4160 KV, as well as control, instrumentation, and engineering responsibilities
  • Maintain and assist in the installation/modification of electrical/electronic control systems by working with process operations, engineering, and vendor personnel
  • Maintain documentation of the site electrical/electronic drawings and schematics to ensure the integrity of the system
  • Assist in the pre-commissioning and startup of new equipment/instrumentation
  • Provide maintenance personnel with direction when assistance is needed on electrical and/or instrumentation problems
  • Perform troubleshooting of electrical/electronic control systems
  • Maintains the plant-wide as-built electrical system single-line drawings
  • Willing to participate with others to solve problems, and contribute to team effort
  • Originate action to identify and correct problems without being told, volunteers ideas for improvement, shows consistent energy, starts work quickly, stays busy, works well without direction
  • Uses logic and experience to develop alternative courses of action, evaluates the alternatives and makes sound, timely decisions

  • Experienced in the use of Project Management concepts and practices
  • Develop preventive maintenance schedules and safety requirements for new equipment
  • Able to design control circuits
  • Optimizing equipment uptime, equipment reliability, and equipment efficiency by analyzing equipment performance data and maintenance practices and recommending improved and/or more appropriate programs, procedures and systems along with recommending enhancements and/or new approaches.
  • Develop project alternatives, scopes of work and financial justification for all small projects
  • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluating equipment
  • Provide troubleshooting and expertise to unscheduled events as requested
  • Involved in managing, implementing, monitoring and/or contribute towards programs intended to increase the uptime of assets. Such programs include but are not limited to: Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, Condition-Based Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance, and FMEA programs
  • Conduct analysis/investigations and provide leadership in Failure Mode Analysis & Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures that significantly affect product quality, equipment uptime and plant capacity
  • Report conclusions to plant management and make recommendations for improved programs and practices intended to prevent similar failures
  • Analyzes data to identify trends in equipment performance that adversely affect efficiency, cost, quality, plant capacity, and production throughput
  • Make recommendations on actions that can be taken to reverse adverse trends

Required Qualifications:

  • Five+ years of practical electrical/ instrumentation/ controls experience in an industrial setting
  • Processing Equipment and Instrumentation Controls Installation/Setup/Maintenance
  • Network Installation/Setup/Maintenance
  • Solutions and Team support for Automation 
  • Able to utilize Project Management, SPC, designed experiments, and other appropriate techniques to evaluate process capabilities, define necessary improvements, and monitor results
  • Ability to work in a semi-autonomous environment without technical direction
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to transfer knowledge to all levels of the organization
  • Computer skills; ability to effectively use information systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering 
  • Experience with PLC’s, HMI, variable speed drives
