Job Description

  • Responsible for the overall performance of the Production and Packaging Departments while focusing on Safety, Quality, Cost and Employee Environment.
  • Actively promote and support food safety and product quality programs (i.e. GMPs, HACCP, quality and sanitation standards) and initiatives though working closely with the Quality Assurance team, plant management, operations and employees.
  • Manage and provide strong leadership, direction, support and development to a team of supervisors and department personnel.
  • Ensure optimum and efficient production schedules and employee schedules.
  • Work with our suppliers, customers, Production Planning and Customer Service to ensure customer needs are satisfied from product performance, quality, cost and timely shipment of orders.  Work to minimize/eliminate customer complaints.
  • Lead trouble-shooting and problems-solving efforts through the facilitation of team meetings and on-the-floor leadership to effectively change systems and procedures through the process of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and maintain labor staffing accordingly to meet or exceed the labor cost per pound objectives.
  • Monitor, oversee and improve the safety and quality of the finished product and environment by maintaining the equipment and facility in a sanitary condition to meet regulatory, customer, and company standards, though working closely with plant sanitation and Quality Assurance.
  • Maintain a positive employee environment through consistent/fair practices and leadership in areas such as employee development, safety and training.
  • Develop a yearly departmental budget, in conjunction with the Plant Manager. Monitor and control departmental costs in comparison with budgetary standards.  Measure/ focus on maximizing yields, productivity, controlling waste, labor efficiencies and monitoring spending.
  • Identify equipment downtime and machine problems and work with our maintenance staff to resolve issues leading to inefficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective verbal and written communication with the Plant Manager, plant management team, supervisors, service groups and all employees to ensure smooth operation of the process.
  • Work cross functionally to improve plant efficiency and quality.
  • Work with Maintenance and Engineering to develop, provide justification, implement and achieve ROI commitment for capital improvement projects for Production.
  • Promote and support the plant’s safety programs and policies to insure a safe, hazard-free working environment for all employees, through floor leadership and active role in plant’s safety teams.
  • Maintain, adhere to and administer company policies and procedures in the areas of Human Resources, Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
  • Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in dairy manufacturing and management, with minimum of 2 years cheese manufacturing experience.
  • Strong food safety, customer and quality focus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions and implement to completion corrective actions.
  • Ability to understand cost containment and budgetary principles. Budgeting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently, with good analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead, influence and motivate a large workforce through interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, possess high degree of initiative, and work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Maestro, etc.
