Job Title: Quality Manager
Job Location: Rhode Island

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading the quality assurance department in maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality throughout the plant
  • Encourage a heightened awareness of quality and food safety by continuously training  all workers in the plant
  • Responsible to insure that the company complies with all AIB standards for GMPs, HACCP, Food Defense  and BRC on a continual basis via inspection, reporting and re-inspection
  • Follows up to insure corrective action and full implementation is effectuated
  • Coach, counsel, and train plant personnel and management the importance of compliance with all of the above mentioned standards and how to meet those standards on a daily basis
  • Direct and coordinate all Quality Assurance activities within the plant including: microbiological testing, maintaining and enhancing food safety standards, SSOPs, GMPs, HACCP, Food Defense and BRC.  This includes extensive training for plant employees in each of these key areas to enforce a culture of food safety
  • Direct and coordinate all GMP, HACCP, Food Defense, and BRC related programs, policies and procedures, including internal plant audits, monthly meetings and documentation of results
  • Coordinate and supervise preparation for and execution of all food safety audits with AIB, RIDOH, and FDA and insure compliance with all regulations
  • Direct and coordinate all Quality Assurance activities within the plant including all duties of Quality Assurance receivers, Quality Assurance technicians and the Food Safety Coordinator
  • Review, analyze, and maintain all Quality Assurance reporting functions that are critical to quality assurance
  • Maintain and manage all work schedules of Quality Assurance personnel in a cost effective manner
  • Conduct purchasing activities and inventory management of Quality Assurance supplies in a cost effective manner and in accordance with company standards
  • Actively participate in tri-weekly management staff meetings to promote food safety goals and provide inter-departmental guidance on company initiatives
  • Maintain internal BRC auditing schedule and documentation review in accordance with BRC standards
  • Review and audit all plant practices and procedures from receiving through shipping to maintain compliance with BRC standards
  • Tracks and reports on corrective action implementation to insure completion occurs in a timely manner
  • Daily audits shall include a thorough review of paperwork to insure proper document control, completeness, and filing
  • Interviewing employees to insure that they know why they are doing things a certain way to conform to BRC standards
  • Observation and strict enforcement of GMPs
  • Reconciliation of new lot numbers in scaling room and proper rotation and designation in ingredient storage areas
  • Reconciliation of rework dough in the retarders with thorough review of paperwork
  • Maintain strict adherence to metal detector CCP’s, finished weights programs, and documentation
  • Conduct all Food Safety training
  • Direct the mock recall process for finished goods and raw materials as required by our procedures
  • Prepare reports and documentation to inform management of any BRC compliance issues
  • Looks for operational changes (product, equipment, job functions, materials, etc.) to insure compliance with HACCP and BRC standards
  • Look for ways to continuously improve our compliance with all food safety standards

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or better from a college program
  • Minimum of five years experience in the food industry
  • Training in Global Food Safety Standards required
  • Comprehensive knowledge and specialized training in food safety programs (HACCP, BRC, or SQF) including regulatory compliance and auditing practices
  • Demonstrable understanding of HACCP, GMPs, SOPs, microbiology, and sanitation
  • Minimum of five years of supervising and managing personnel
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Lead by example – promotes food safety performance and helps establish a food safety culture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GMP, BRC or SQF audits, and AIB
  • Fluency in Spanish is a strong advantage
