Job Title: Quality Manager
Job Location: Louisiana


  • Develops and implements laboratory procedures consistent with the FGIS grain inspection handbooks requirements to ensure accuracy of test results
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for processes driven by the Lab and for which Lab staff are responsible
  • Trains laboratory staff and operations staff on laboratory analyses and procedures, and qualifies Lab Technician as a Trainer
  • Develops, implements and maintains Site Sampling Plan in conjunction with Operations
  • Supervises the daily testing of products to ensure the final product is within grade specifications
  • Completes regular checks of laboratory staff and equipment to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed and company standards are met
  • Maintains inventory of supplies to ensure efficient laboratory and plant floor operator analysis
  • Ensures lab equipment (in lab and on plant grounds) is operating properly, is fully maintained and is within calibration
  • Provide regular and routine coaching to staff to assess performance, develop staff and build effective teams
  • Generates daily, weekly and monthly Quality reports for facility and regional management reviews
  • Responds to sample quality, issues or alarms and leads investigations as necessary
  • Works closely with plant personnel to address and resolve any outstanding issues that may arise
  • Coordinates with FGIS and Control room personnel to adjust process settings and equipment as needed based on laboratory test results to achieve optimal performance
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of strategies and tactics to optimize plant efficiency in order to maximize blends
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Superintendent to identify production bottlenecks and other production issues that need to be corrected
  • Active member of the facility SHE Program and leads SHE efforts within their area
  • Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are followed
  • Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned and for jobs and tasks prior to assigning work
  • Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner
  • Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable
  • Involved with the development, implementation and revisions of the plant quality program
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of facility quality audits
  • Administer internal quality audit programs and report findings and actions as required by the quality system
  • Participates in the investigation of any product quality issues
  • Leads the facility Food/Feed Safety Programs and assessments
  • Recommend hiring, firing, and discipline of employees as well as supervise, manage, and direct work of inspection staff
  • Approves hours worked and authorizes overtime for inspection personnel
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the inspection lab
  • Coordinates with Control Room staff, Outside Superintendents, and assigns work to inspection staff to meet terminal operating needs
  • Recommends and implements adjustments and improvements to grain inspection as well as terminal operational settings, controls, and equipment to maintain or improve grain quality and handling, and overall terminal operations

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED with at least five years of prior grain inspection experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a grain inspection laboratory setting as a technician or manager
  • Minimum two years of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Experience within a related high speed grain handling facility
  • Broad knowledge of relevant USDA handbooks including but not limited to Books II, III, Mechanical Sampling Handbook and Weighing Handbook
  • Broad knowledge of laboratory processes, procedures, and equipment
  • Broad knowledge of quality assurance testing methods
  • Broad knowledge of plant production processes, procedures and equipment
  • Ability to oversee and direct the work of others
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to use statistical software
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and prioritize workload
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software, (e.g., Excel and MS Word)
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner both written and verbal
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Chemistry or other similar science degree (e.g., food science)
  • Training in or experience with continuous improvement programs (i.e.; 6 Sigma, Kaizen, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements the facility operates under (e.g., OSHA, PSM, EPA, USDA, FDA, BATF, NDEQ) preferred
